California Opera is representative of a grand ensemble of people from all walks of life and who value diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and respect for all others. The company is comprised of staff, volunteers, leaders, and artists who embrace each other’s differences in abilities, religious beliefs, political ideologies, gender identities, sexual orientations, and ethnic and national origins. The company thrives because there is inclusion and respect for all people. The participants have actively demonstrated a dedicated history of opposing racism, sexism, and ageism on stage and in real life. Artistic choices and program selection have helped build bridges between cultures and dismantle the historical insensitivity in opera, based on racial, gender, and socioeconomic divides.
